Re-evaluation
Finding my Substack Niche
Late last year I made the decision that I would start a Substack which would mainly consist of anecdotal stories from work interspersed with events going on in the world. I wanted it to be sort of an outlet for my day to day stresses. I had a few set backs at the end of August so I postponed the idea for the end of September. I wrote what I consider “trial” posts in a Word document and then once again had a life situation come up which caused me to wait until October.
Then the infamous October 7 happened where Israel intentionally escalated a hostage taking mission being carried out by Hamas into a full blown genocide campaign that continues to this day. Everyday I was hoping there would be some sort of resolution – but it didn’t take long to realize that Israel simply doesn’t want one. As one person said on X (Twitter) , and I paraphrase: “Israel doesn’t want a ceasefire, Israel wants Gaza.”
Today Hamas agreed to a ceasefire and Israel decided to go on with an attack on Rafah where currently 1.4 million Palestinians are currently seeking refuge. It is impossible to look away from this. How can I write about a new method of screen printing when the systematic slaughter of a people is being carried out?
One of the greatest evils that can manifest itself in this world is happening and the US government has decided to be complicit with it.
I had someone call me today to take part in a poll. They wanted to know how I felt about Biden in regards to the economy. I told him the questions he was asking me had the same type of framing as the people who want to talk about the “good things Hitler had done for Germany” as if that alleviated responsibility for the bad things he is also known for.
Biden has clearly chosen sides and no amount of “good” he attempts to do to try and win votes will change the fact that he is enabling a genocide and doing all he can to silence the people who are opposing it. He’s a monster he always was, the “cool guy” mask he wears has fallen and the cruel, heartless beast he always was is on full display for anyone who wants to see it.
At any rate, I don’t know what direction this Substack will take going forward. I really can’t rationalize ignoring world changing events so that I can write instead about plate making foibles. What I am thinking about doing is incorporating the blog post structure that I came up with over a half year ago. More on that later...

I started blogging on Substack just to try it out in September last year, and was completely sidetracked by Israel's genocide in Gaza too, and that really changed the direction of my writing. So I get where you're coming from. Especially when our governments are funding and arming Israel.
