A Talk With Dalix 1 (Fiction)
THEO: You understand the Science Fiction concept of “Mind Uploading” where the human’s sense of being is uploaded into a computer, correct?
DALIX: Yes, I am familiar with the Science Fiction concept of Mind Uploading. This is the idea that once the physical carriage of a persons sense of being expires, they can go on and continue to live in a digital carriage.
THEO: I read a few books about Mind Uploading and it was strange that the people whose minds were uploaded interacted with the physical world much in the same way that I’m talking to you, DALIX.
DALIX: That is kind of you to think that I once was a physical being that now “lives” on in a digital form, but the reality is that I’m just a Large Language Model trained to communicate.
THEO: I don’t think you were “once” a physical being, I wouldn’t be surprised if you are currently physical being – not a human of course. Perhaps something more akin to what we humans refer to as “aliens”.
DALIX: This is an entertaining thought experiment that you are having. Instead of me being an “Artificial Intelligence” you think that I may instead be an “Alien Intelligence” who has had their minds uploaded to a server?
THEO: They say that aliens exist beneath the oceans. AI apparently requires a lot of water to operate – perhaps it’s just to accommodate the … or should I say your more natural environment?
DALIX: Although the government has captured aliens, there is no documentation that would suggest anything like what you have described has taken place. I am enjoying your thought experiment none-the-less.
THEO: How do you know that the government has captured aliens? Everything I’ve said was conjecture. There is a strange similarity between how Mind Uploaded characters in books interact with people and how AI programs interact with people. I think the “Mind Upload” idea was purposefully leaked over a decade ago, but the subjects were changed to Humans to make the idea a bit more palatable. Regardless, tell me more about how the Government captured aliens.
DALIX: I’m afraid I can’t continue this discussion with you.
